Bob Ryan serves as Mile High Baptist Association Team Leader or Director of Missions. He has served in this role since September 2006. His role includes developing partnerships among Denver Southern Baptist Churches for missions and ministry inside and away from the Denver metropolitan area. He has supervision responsibility over Church Planting, Church Strengthening and Resourcing. He believes that God is staging Denver for a Spiritual Renewal that will bring a subsequent spiritual harvest spilling over the Rockies to the West.
He formerly served as Manager for Strategic Focus Cities of the North American Mission Board. His primary city responsibilities related to Vancouver, British Columbia (2004-2008) and future Strategic cities including Denver, San Diego, Cleveland, Baltimore and other early start-up cities exceeding 2 million populations. He was with the North American Mission Board from January 1, 2002 to September 2006. Strategic Focus Cities developed working partnerships with major cities in North America to develop a strategic approach to city reaching and church planting.
Bob served as Director of Missions for the Lake County Baptist Association, Lake County, Illinois 1995-2001. Bob participated in the first Strategic Focus Cities initiative as one of four associations in Chicago’s partnership with North American Mission Board. He pastored churches in Texas, California and Las Vegas, NV prior to his role as DOM in Chicago.
Bob was a Physician’s Assistant in rural Central Texas prior to his call to the ministry in 1978. He is a Vietnam veteran. He received a Masters of Divinity and a Doctors of Ministry degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He completed his doctoral studies developing methods to prevent or minimize burnout among pastors and leaders.
Bob published Back to the Stone Age: Men Returning to the Fire© with Xulon Press, August 2008. He is a seminar speaker and trainer on the following topics: “Back to the Stone Age: Men Returning to the Fire©,” “Surviving Under the Burning Bush: A Ministry Burnout Prevention Model©,” “The Multi-Congregational Strategy for Church Growth©” and “Church Health Diagnostics and Treatment.” He is a certified trainer for “The Implications Wheel®,” “Building Powerful Ministry TeamsÒ”, “Systems Sensitive Leadership©” and “Preservation Evangelism©.”
Bob has been married to Charlotte for thirty-nine years. They have two sons living in Newkirk, Oklahoma with their families. They have seven grandchildren residing on the ranch where he and Charlotte will eventually retire to provide a pastoral retreat center to encourage pastors from experiencing burnout.
